Alex Stultz, a long-time music enthusiast, made his first t-shirt in high school for his band the Killer Iguanas. In 1994 he began growing the merchandise operation of Dave Matthews Band. Alex quickly developed a national reputation for himself in the industry and in 2001 he launched Red Star, a merchandise production and consulting business based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Seven years on the client side of the equation showed Alex where most merchandise companies fall short. He feels strongly that bands should retain artistic control of their merchandise—which is a direct reflection of them—and so Red Star encourages clients to be as involved as they want to be in the production process.
